Hamlet Downs
To live in the country and run a B & B had been a long held dream. I had a job I loved - teaching drama and Shakespeare of course - but back in 2015 I felt it was now or never for a change. When I started to do some research on the net I realised Tasmanian was the place!
Within a short space of time I found Hamlet Downs and it ticked a lot of boxes. Driving distance to Hobart and close to World Heritage listed Mt Field National Park. On the 23rd of April,Shakespeare’s birthday, we travelled to our new adventure and new home.
A year later we celebrated 1 year anniversary with a Shakespearean Feast on his birthday. Now it’s become a tradition here at Hamlet Downs - so named because Fentonbury is a hamlet - but for me, with my thespian leanings The King Suite , the Queen Suite and the Hamlet Suite are so named in honour of my favourite playwright.
In 2020 we plan to celebrate The Bards Birthday with a Shakespearean Feast, a Sonnet Slam , and as many creative activities as possible!
At Hamlet Downs we offer comfortable cosy and relaxing accommodation. Two of the suites have kitchen/kitchette, with the third having microwave, toaster kettle. But all the Suites can take advantage of delicious meals served to their private dining area.
Hamlet Downs suites can also be interconnected and be perfect for small groups of up to 10 persons where they can all dine together. Greta for small company conferences- just an hour from Hobart!
